Listen to Your body

Posted by ks on Jul 24th, 2008

We all know that when working out we need to stretch and take note when something doesn’t feel right, but it’s nice to get a reminder every once in awhile to stretch out, slow down and really listen to your body. After noticing some strain on my knee when running, I wanted to get some additional support. I tried out the Wellgate knee brace on my run the other day and loved the extra support and flexibility it provided. I don’t want to just pass along products without trying them, but this was a fantastic fit.

The products from Wellgate are all engineered especially for women. You can find out more on their products at www.wellgateproducts.com

Healthy Kid (and mom!) Snacks

Posted by ks on Jul 17th, 2008

When we’re always on the go, it can seem harder to find the convenient and healthy snacks. Here are a few ideas on what I stash in my purse, bag or car as we’re out and about this summer.

  • Cut up veggies and fruits at one time for the whole week. Put in little baggies so they’ll be easy to grab and go.
  • Peanut butter (I like organic peanut butter) and sugar-free jelly is always a good choice. It sticks with them and provides energy for the rest of the day.
  • Pretzels to dip in cream cheese.
  • Often times I’ll put left over dinner items in little baggies (berries, chicken, etc.)
  • Piece of whole wheat bread.
  • String cheese or slice cheese.
  • Snap peas
  • Carrots, apples, bell peppers – anything crunchy you can replace that craving to munch on chips is a good thing!

A tribute to my dad…

Posted by ks on Jul 17th, 2008

Most all of us have gone through the loss of a loved one, and for my family we’ve been able to keep the memory of my dad, Dan Demmas, alive through our stories and memories still now a year this past July, after his passing.

In the slide show found at the following link, I share with you some of those memories. The quotes are all from my children. They reference my dad as “papou,” which means “grandfather” in Greek.

See the slide show here.
