Prep for School

Posted by ks on Jul 26th, 2009

I know, I know, summer has only just started it seems and here I am prodding you to get your paperwork and backpacks lined up. Well, the truth is – it’s here whether you’re ready or not.

Start now getting the physicals, dental appointments and all final check-ups completed so you can fill out the school forms and know you’re all set to go. Now that our annual trip for the summer is over, our house is buzzing with back-to-school activity. The last minute summer readings, papers and worksheets along with my house full of athletes all working out harder than ever to get a good jump on the season. They are working sprints, weights and food to make sure they’re good to go.

As a mom, you need to keep organized and a handle on the paperwork required for the start of school. If your child is not getting it to you, ask! It’s better to be proactive than reactive in most cases. Start making your lists now and you’ll be ready when the first day hits yet again with what seems like just moments after the last.

Packing Light

Posted by ks on Jul 8th, 2009

With twelve of us piling into the two vehicles, we need to pack light – we’d hate to leave anyone behind because we ran out of room!  I print out a list of what to pack for all of the kids. They look for them, check off the items and we can keep everyone limited to one backpack for the week.

If anyone is having trouble, I’ll got through their bag with them and we’ll get it all sorted out. For the younger ones, my older kids will team up and help them pack.

Make it easy on yourself. Instead of asking each child, six times, “Do you have your swimming suit?” You can trust them to go through the list and pack the swimming gear, their shoes, their hat, shorts, towel, etc.

A quick look at some of the basics on my list.

Sunscreen
Bug Spray
First Aid Kit
Bottled Water
Covered Shoes
Camera (and Batteries!)
Cell Phone charger
A good book
Plenty of Food
Movies/games (for rainy days)
Swim gear
Work out clothes
Hat for sun protection
Waterbottle
